AFRIWAG Joins the National Commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons in Songea, Ruvuma

On October 1, 2025, the African Women AIDS Working Group (AFRIWAG) participated in the national commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons held in Songea Municipality, Ruvuma Region.

This important occasion brought together the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, AFRIWAG, and various stakeholders working to promote the rights and welfare of older persons across the country.

The 2025 commemoration was celebrated under the theme:
“Older Persons: Let’s Participate in Elections for Peace and the Wellbeing of Our Society.”

During the event, government leaders, representatives from civil society, and development partners shared messages that emphasized respect, inclusion, and the protection of older persons’ rights. They also underscored the importance of peaceful participation in the upcoming electoral process as a foundation for community wellbeing and national development.

As a committed development partner, AFRIWAG reaffirmed its dedication to improving the lives of older persons through its ongoing projects and programs focusing on health, social protection, and community engagement.
